This is Dawn After Dark’s first London show in over 30 years !
Dawn After Dark was the great, undiscovered secret of the late ‘80s UK scene. The Birmingham band made music that paid homage to their hometown rock heritage, while adding a contemporary twist.
After signing to respected local label Chapter 22 Dawn After Dark released three EPs to critical acclaim. Tours with Balaam And The Angel, Wolfsbane, Living Colour and Fields Of The Nephilim saw DAD recognised as one of the UK’s best live bands. But a country that was in thrall to indie pop worked against the group’s heavier instincts.
H left the band in 1990 after some typical internal combustion, but Dawn After Dark came to an end just a year later. And that, it would appear, was that…
Fast-forward to 2019 and a promoter called. Balaam were playing a Birmingham show. Would DAD appear? And so on 27 September 2019 Dawn After Dark performed live on stage for the first time in almost 30 years. Dean Brown, owner of Chapter 22, the label that signed DAD all those years ago, was knocked out by the show and immediately asked the band to re-sign with the label and “come back home.” It wasn’t a hard decision… And so here we are in 2021 and Dawn After Dark will be issuing their much-anticipated debut album later in the year… About time too!
