Want to meet fellow podcasters without the professional pressure of having to be the perfect podder? This is the event for you!
About this event
The Bad Podcasters Club is a, sort-of, fringe event from the Podcast Show, taking place at Islington Town Hall on May 25th and 26th. Whether you’re attending the Podcast Show or not, you’re more than welcome to join us at the Hope and Anchor basement bar for a drink and a chat. The Hope and Anchor on Upper Street (just over from Islington Town Hall) has hosted bands like The Clash, The Cure, The Jam, The Police, Dire Straits, U2 and Joy Division: now it hosts the Bad Podcasters Club!
Why call it the Bad Podcasters Club? There are, of course, no bad podcasters. But this is intended as an antidote to the evangelism and careerism that we see in so much of the podcast industry. All hierarchical values are left at the door – this is a place for indie podcasters and senior executives to mix and mingle. You can share successes and share failures. We all know that podcasting is a tough ol’ business, and too often we only talk about the triumphs and opportunities, rather than the bombs and frustrations.
Hopefully we’ll be able to put on one or two short panel discussions over the course of the evening, with fantastic speakers from diverse areas of the podcast world. These won’t just be the same speakers talking over the road at Podcast Show, nor the same topics. This will be Real Talk. But it will also be brief, no more than 30 minutes or so, after which you can get back to drinking and mingling.
Any live performances of podcasts will happen after last orders, and preferably on the street outside.
Tickets are free – the only reason I’m ticketing the event at all is to get an idea of how close we are to capacity. If the demand is massive then we can look at booking a second night on the Thursday. I’m arranging this and paying for it all out of my own pocket, but if your business wants to chip in then that would be grateful. Just let me know how much you’d like to contribute and I’ll add you to a Proudly Supported By list on all emails and other literature. All money after the costs of covering the venue are met will go straight behind the bar, so that podcasters might enjoy a free lemonade or two.
